Kilimanjaro
With almost ten years of experience on the mountain, Kilimanjaro tours are at the heart of our operations. We know that summiting the mountain is no easy feat and we are here to support and assist our clients every step of the way. Our knowledgeable team has worked with clients from a variety of nationalities and backgrounds, and we pride ourselves on our upbeat, energetic personality that enables fun and enriching experiences for those who travel with us.
While Mt. Kilimanjaro needs no introduction, it is worthy to highlight that this massive mountain is indeed the highest free-standing peak in the world. Known as the roof of Africa, this awe-inspiring mountain is the tallest mountain in all of Africa, towering to 5,895 meters. Due to its high elevation, Mt. Kilimanjaro features diverse vegetation zones and over three different glaciers near the peak. There are six different route options to ascend the mountain, each unique in their own special way,
Machame Route (6, 7+ days tours): Also known as the Whiskey Route, Machame is better suited for the more adventurous hiker and is one of the more popular routes up Kilimanjaro. Like Lemosho and Londorosi, this route has a high success rate because you climb high and sleep low, assisting in the acclimatization process. 7 day tour is recommended in order to balance the hiking duration per day, and shorten the pre-summit day.
Lemosho Route (7, 8+ days tours): Our most highly recommended route, Lemosho is a premium route for two reasons: 1 because it is the most scenic and 2 because it has one of the highest success rates. Lemosho route is a premium trek designed for seven to eight days and features some of the most picturesque views of the region. In addition, it offers the smoothest acclimatization, which aids in its high success rate of 85-95%. 8 day tour is recommended in order to assist with acclimatization.
Londorosi Route (7+ day tours): Londorosi is a good option for clients who are short on time and don’t mind skipping the rainforest region of the mountain. Londorosi provides perhaps the easiest starting day out of all the routes and boasts a high success rate similar to that of Lemosho. 7 day tour is recommended in order to assist with acclimatization (which is especially beneficial, given this route begins above the rainforest region of the mountain).
Rongai Route (6, 7+ days tours): The least crowded route, Rongai winds up the northern side of the mountain. It offers clients the choice of taking a shorter or longer route to the summit, allowing the opportunity to further customize your tour. Duration on this route ranges from six days to seven days. 7 day tour is recommended when taking Mawenzi Ridge (Kikelelwa) option, in order to balance the hiking duration per day as some legs of this route are longer than others. 6 day tour is recommended when taking Kibo Circuit (third camp), as this route is shorter than Mawenzi.
Umbwe Route (6+ days tours): Umbwe is one of the most challenging routes with perhaps the greatest payoff. This route features a beautiful view of the valley for the climber who is able to tackle this short but demanding journey. 6 day tour is recommended as the first two days are steeper and longer than the rest of the journey, giving enough time for a slower pace throughout.
Marangu Route (5, 6+ days tours): Also known as the Coca-Cola route, Marangu is perhaps the easiest option to get to base camp. Marangu features permanent huts along the trail, making this route more luxurious for trekkers. The camps feature beds, mattresses, solar generated power, running hot water, and washrooms, making this route one of the most popular options. Furthermore, the trail is known to be smooth and easy-going. 6 day tour is recommended in order to provide an extra day for acclimatization in Horombo Camp (climb high and sleep low).
We are more than happy to help you select an option to best fit your trekking needs. Most routes can be shortened or extended, upon request of the client. For a detailed, day-by-day route itinerary, please contact us.
Social Responsibility
Albizia Tours was founded with the goal of prioritizing practices that are culturally respectful, socially responsible, and environmentally sustainable. We have a high focus on raising awareness about fair wages and working conditions in the tourism industry, specifically on Kilimanjaro, and as such, we are committed to paying wages aligned with the Kilimanjaro Porter’s Assistance Project. Combined with our constant commitment to create an empowering and constructive work environment for our crew, we believe small actions can help shape the nature of tourism in Tanzania and impact not only our crew, but so many other individuals in the country, and promotes travel based on respect, equity, and integrity.
Environmental Focus
We dedicate ourselves to putting the environment at the forefront of everything we do. We are proud to offer clients the opportunity to partake in our One Tree Program, in which we have committed to planting one tree in our local community for every client that hikes Kilimanjaro with us.
